BIO

| Meaningful Human-AI Collaboration | The Future of Work | Value-centric design | AI Governance | Digital Sovereignty |

I am a Professor for Human-Centric AI and Director of the AI Initiative at the University of Auckland Business School.

As co-founder of Human First – The Global Hub for Human-Centric AI my application-driven research focuses on: 1) digital humans & the future of work, 2) digital sovereignty & literacy, 3) AI governance & risks.

My conceptual work emphasizes value-centric, future-oriented, and adaptive approaches to create sociotechnical systems that foster innovation, wellbeing and efficiency.

I believe in engaged scholarship and have successfully acquired and led projects funded by the European Union as well as national governments and organizations in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, New Zealand, Australia and the USA, focusing on the design of digital workplaces.

My research has attracted more than 16,000 citations, received multiple awards, and featured in major international media. In 2024, I was named among the world’s Top 2% Scientists, ranking 285th globally in Information Systems. That same year, I became the first academic at an Asia-Pacific university to receive the Association for Information Systems’ Innovation in Teaching Award for my collaborative and applied “Learning Out Loud” approach. In 2026, Research.com ranked me 15th in New Zealand and 2,429th worldwide in Business and Management.
