Andrea is a doctoral student at the University of Auckland, researching how deep learning can be used to predict genomic instability biomarkers from routine histopathology slides, with a particular focus on improving health equity in cancer diagnostics for New Zealand patients. Her broader research interests lie in bioinformatics, machine-learning, genomics and translational cancer diagnostics.

After completing her Master's, she worked with Te Whatu Ora to help establish and implement the FIT for Symptomatic Screening Programme, which provides bowel cancer screening for patients under the national screening age (56).

She is supervised by Dr Nicholas Knowlton and Dr Annette Lasham, and works alongside clinical collaborators at Te Whatu Ora.
