BIO
I am currently a PhD student (submission April 2026) in the University of Auckland's Molecular Neurotherapeutics Lab under the supervision of Associate Professor Deborah Young and Dr Angela Wu in the Department of Pharmacology & Clinical Pharmacology & Centre for Brain Research at The University of Auckland.
My work on this project is being funded by the Auckland Medical Research Foundation’s Helen Goodwin Doctoral Scholarship and the Hope Foundation Research on Ageing Scholarship.
My primary research interests are biotherapy development and the integration of emerging technologies in therapeutic development and delivery. Within neuroscience, my key interests are the cognitive decline seen in neurodegenerative disease and general aging, and improving cell survival after an insult.
I have previously completed a research project investigating a novel regulation system for gene therapy, which regulates transgene expression in response to changes in cell state, and I am in the process of submitting my PhD "Evaluation of GluN1 Antibody Technologies for Neurodegenerative Disease".
I believe that as scientists, it is essential that we participate in aiding the healthcare sector where we can, which is why I took on a medical laboratory technologist role during the COVID-19 pandemic, gaining a provisional medical laboratory science registration in the process. Following my PhD, I plan to continue researching novel therapeutics and develop my niche as a scientist.
Outside of my research, I enjoy science communication and had the privilege to co-chair the HealtheX research conference in 2022 and 2023. I have also enjoyed speaking with the public about my research at charity events and getting involved with programmes such as the New Zealand Brain Bee Challenge to get high school students excited about brain research.
