Doctoral Candidate

Population Health

BIO

Jinghang (Jing) is a PhD candidate in Population Health, supervised by Dr Xiaojing Sharon Wu, Professor Ngaire Kerse and Dr Catherine Bacon.

He trained in exercise science and exercise physiology in the United States, and holds a doctorate in physical education from Northeastern University in Boston. He then spent several years teaching and leading research on ageing in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. He has also collaborated on ageing research with colleagues in the United States.

His work focuses on physical activity and healthy ageing — in particular, how family circumstances, community services and public health provision shape whether older adults stay active. His earlier training prepared him to design and deliver exercise programmes for older people. He came to Auckland for the population health methods needed to understand who those programmes reach, and who they miss.
