BIO
My research interests lie in two complementary areas:
1. Developing statistical methods for designing efficient data collection protocols, and
2. Enabling scientists to optimize the quality of their research by developing accessible software to assist them in:
- Developing their own data collection protocols and
- Purposefully analyzing their data.
I have a long history of collaborating with research scientists, working at the interface of statistics and a broad range of life science disciplines.
Before joining the University of Auckland, I spent 3 years (2003 – 2006) working as a Research Statistician at CSIRO’s former Division of Mathematical and Information Sciences (Canberra, Australia). There I largely worked with plant scientists who were generating what was at that time considered be very large datasets using a very new cutting-edge biotechnology, namely cDNA two-colour microarrays!
When in 2006 I joined the Proteomics and Biomedicine Research Group led by Professor Garth Cooper, I collaborated on numerous diabetes research studies, both advising and being actively involved in the design and analysis of experiments using high-throughput omics technologies.
Finally, in 2010 I joined the Department of Statistics as a Senior Lecturer and as a Senior Consultant in the Department’s Statistical Consulting Center.
Responsibilities:
Kathy is also a consultant within the Department of Statistics Statistical Consulting Centre.
