BIO

I am a founding member of the bi-cultural Te Ārai Palliative Care and End of Life Research Group at the School of Nursing, University of Auckland. I have been a principal or named investigator on grants totaling more than $7 million. These grants have focused on issues critical to older adults including palliative and end of life care, assisted dying, loneliness, dementia and Covid-19 lockdown experiences. In addition, since joining the School in 2012, I have been instrumental in building the group’s capacity in the use of creative arts methods and Arts Based Knowledge Translation (ABKT). I have accomplished this through leading the ABKT component of 11 research studies. ABKT seeks to address the gap between healthcare research and its implementation. It does so by providing a framework for collaborations between researchers and creative arts practitioners to produce unique and innovative means for disseminating research-based evidence. I have also served as an ethics advisor since 2013, advising staff and students on their ethics application to the UAHPEC, AHREC, and HDEC platforms.
