Melenaite Tohi completed a Bachelor of Science, followed by a PostGraduate Diploma and then a Master of Science Degree at Otago University (Dunedin, NZ). Her MSc research was in the area of analytical chemistry, University of Otago, 2021. Her background is in Forensic Analytical Chemistry, specifically the authentication of raw materials such as cotton using stable isotopes H, O and C of rainfall to geolocate its origin. Being of Tongan descent, she sought to undertake a PhD in an area that focuses on improving the health of Pacific peoples that could enable her to “make a difference”. Melenaite is currently working on a research project that focuses on adolescents living in New Zealand's understanding of the DOHaD concept and lifelong health.
