RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research addresses issues of sustainability, values and care for the common good. The question that drives it is how do we live well together?

My recent research looks at the values and symbols that underlie the human drive to participate in the common good. My 2026 book on this is The Calling: A year exploring what the secular world can learn from religion. I've written two other related books: Psychology for a Better World: Working with People to Save the Planet and The Infinite Game: How to Live Well Together.

I've also worked with many community partners on promoting environmental sustainability, including Western Springs College / Ngā Puna O Waiōrea, the sustainable schools team at Auckland Council, the Enviroschools network, the Sustainable Business Network and most recently Starship Children's Hospital.
