I am a senior research fellow in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at University of Auckland. I completed my Master’s and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland in 2011 and 2015, respectively.

My research focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to advanced materials engineering, particularly the development of high-performance biomaterials and composite systems. My work spans the manufacturing and characterisation of composites incorporating both natural fibres and synthetic materials. A key area of my research is the upcycling of waste materials into value-added functional composites, with a strong emphasis on improving flame retardancy and fire-safe material design.

I actively collaborate with aerospace and building industry partners across New Zealand to investigate the fire performance and safety of composite interior materials for engineering applications. My research aims to contribute to the development of sustainable, high-performance materials that support both environmental and industrial innovation.

Alongside my research activities, I contribute extensively to teaching and postgraduate supervision. As a senior lecturer and course coordinator for the Composite Materials course, I deliver both theoretical and hands-on laboratory components covering composite design, processing, and testing. I also supervise and mentor PhD candidates, Master’s students, and visiting scholars.
