BIO

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Science and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Auckland. As a mathematical scientist and engineer, I'm interested in both the theory and practice of using mathematics and computation to make sense of complex real-world systems. My work combines mathematical modelling, computation, statistical inference, and machine learning to bridge the gap between theoretical frameworks and real-world data.

I completed my PhD at the University of Auckland, working jointly between the Auckland Bioengineering Institute and the Department of Mathematics. My doctoral research focused on mathematical modelling of epithelial transport. I then held a postdoctoral position at the Wolfson Centre for Mathematical Biology at the University of Oxford's Mathematical Institute, which cultivated my interest in connecting mathematical models with data.

Since returning to New Zealand, my research interests have expanded to include geothermal reservoir modelling, disease dynamics, and traditional engineering applications, while maintaining my interest in biological systems. In 2019, I was awarded the University of Auckland Faculty of Engineering James and Hazel D. Lord Emerging Faculty Fellowship. I was also part of the team awarded the 2020 Prime Minister's Science Prize for work on Aotearoa New Zealand's COVID-19 response.
