RESEARCH INTERESTS
Recent work includes:
> Operational drought monitoring
> Sea surface characterisation and wake detection from satellite data
> Laboratory and field technique development for the measurements of natural surface emissivity
> The use of land surface temperature in models of agricultural pests and disease in sub-Saharan Africa
> Cloud gap filling in satellite data
> Automated landcover change mapping in eastern European wetlands with machine learning
> Space policy and the maritime domain
> Search and rescue at sea
The primary tool used in all of this work is Python (with a little Fortran) on both local and high-performance computing environments, supported by QGIS and the other industry-standard GUI packages. The use of machine learning at scale is an increasing theme throughout all research projects.
I am keen to collaborate across all applications of remote sensing, with a particular interest in the maritime and off-shore domains.
